“When children spend hours being fed algorithmically-driven rage-bait content designed to increase engagement, they lose the ability to form their own opinions, detect bias, and think critically.”🎯

Thank you Emily, I have been alarmed at the intrusion of technology in the early years of childhood and have seen its direct impact on those children when they enter kindergarten and first grade. Parents want to give their children every advantage they can to get a head start in life, but what they don’t understand is that technology undermines that goal. I have been working with colleagues in our district to support more free play, less technology, more movement to help support their physical, emotional and academic goals, but it is a struggle. We need awareness at the parent level, district, state level and federal level. This is at its most fundamental level a human rights issue. Children need their childhood back. Childhood is essential for their long term health and life long learning.

"This isn't our fault, but it is our responsibility to do something." So good, Emily!!!

"HOW?" That story is heartbreaking. Thank you for including the bit about the "sounds" young kids hear online and imitate. We've done this generation a huge injustice. They needed the protection of adults, and all the adults were too mesmerized by their own screens to care.

Thank you for bringing this to our legislators ad for sharing with us. I agree wholeheartedly, speaking from 40 years as a school psychologist....with my training done when we used punchcards to enter data into a computer located in the basement!

Thank you for bringing this in such a clear way to the legislators. As an educator, I dedicate all my energy to counter tech’s negative impacts. This blog post covers how the tool shapes the user: https://www.casperpieters.com/thoughtbytes/the-tool-that-shapes-the-hand-teaching-resilience-in-the-age-of-ai
